So I was told by the breeder that 90%, Wally is a male and Eva a female. I know that’s just a guess. I’m not having them sexed, at least for a while. Just curious to your thoughts on the sex.

Wally, hybrid, thought to be male, smaller in width compared to Eva. I think he has more of the “typical” personality of a female. And Eva has the personality of a boy. Wally was the one who started clicking and trying to stand on Eva’s back so I figured, boom he’s got to be male. But then Eva started doing the same thing. When Eva started clicking, Wally started to bow and open up his wings and letting her stand on his back. He’s let’s her, but she doesn’t like it when he does it to her haha. Neither have started stuffing their rump, although both sexes do that. Eva just started doing this behavior yesterday. So I guess the question is, do both the males and females mount each other or is that strictly a male behavior?

Yes.
Female female and male male pairs do exist and they mate.

Usually the behaviours of our birds will give us a very very good guess of our birds sex. But, if they are displaying both, then you will need a DNA test to confirm sex, or wait for egg confirmation.

I remember when I took Adelie in to get her foot looked at. She was only young, but the vet (exotics specialist, not our current vet) kept telling me that you can´t sex these birds visually and that she seems to be a boy. I told him, I assure you she is a girl. A few months later it was proven by egg.

So if they are both doing this and he’s bowing and opening his wings, do you think that’s female behavior?

I would recommend a DNA test for clarity.

indie bowed first a good few months to pico about 6/7months before stripping things and putting them in her back and that’s only been this month she’s 1years in January (indie not dnd female but I would say I am 70%/80% sure she is)
Indie breeder actually said he was sure she was female from pelvic bone test but obviously that’s not 100%

pico who’s old owner said he was male breeder dnd him but not seen paper work so not 100% does not bow or put things in his back clicks scratches as started to do side wards steps to indie and definitely had a good hump with his rope perch

indie is a lot bigger than pico feet body and beak

will you not get them dnd ? What’s ur guess ?

I am so tempted to get indie mango done But don’t know where to start

That is not a snigle gender trait. Many PF males do it too... Though that does remind me,

Neither have started stuffing their rump,
It is likely Wally might experience some confusion over his species, being a hybrid. It has been noted that these birds don´t know whether to carry nesting materials in their rumps like their Peach-faced half, or carry it in their beaks like their eye-ring type half. It could be he copies Eva and will learn the paper tail quickly, but it could take him longer to learn the skill, if at all.

Indie breeder actually said he was sure she was female from pelvic bone test but obviously that’s not 100%
:geek:
The last time I checked my youngest, the pelvic bones felt female.... But he has the loudest clicks of all my boys, and feeds and humps that Kong toy of his all the time, has mastered the clicky scratchy dance and in general has all male traits, hense, I call him ¨he¨..... Should I be proven wrong by egg, I´ll eat my words; all those ¨he¨s and ¨him¨s :embarassed:

One of my hens, Lapis, had male feeling pelvic bones as a young bird, but they later moved and I was able to sex her as female. Eventually proven by egg.

I had posted a few photos of Tteok, my cockatiel, on Reddit and this one person was absolutely INSISTENT Tteok was a girl. I kept explaining he 1) Hasn’t had his adult molt yet, and 2) Based on his constant singing, talking, and heart wings - he’s a boy.

Had him DNA’d - Boy.
