Hi. I hope this is in the correct place, but if not please forgive, "newbee"
WE have a Red Factor canary, bought as a Male, (now querrying) with another canary which we believe IS a Male as he sings like crazy. They are in seperate cages. If it is female will it lay eggs, even though it won't be fertilized. If so, when and how often. the bird is about 7 months old. and if female how soon can they be paired??
appreciate any help. photos and short film clips will be posted soon.

ps. WE need to know if Harry will become a HARRIAT

cheers all. Randall

Canary hens should not be bred until their second season (when they turn two years old). They can lay on their own when they go into condition IF there is a male singing its courtship song to them or if they are fed high protein and kept to too long days. The only way to visually sex a canary is to do it during the breeding season, otherwise, both males and females' genitals look the same. Please make sure they are kept to a natural daylight schedule with full exposure to dawn and dusk. Canaries are NOT tropical birds and need to follow the seasons or they die very young.
