For the month of February, 2012 I am delighted to highlight Renae's (Renae) setup for Multiple Birds in a Bedroom! Renae has made an enjoyable safe place for her flock to spread their wings and have fun!
1~ What kind of birds do you have and how many birds did you design your setup for?
I have 8 birds - 4 Cockatiels, 2 Green Cheek Conures, 1 Indian Ringneck, and 1 Alexandrine Parakeet/ Indian Ringneck Parakeet.
2~ Is your setup for a handicapped bird?
It isn’t, but I could certainly change that. I do have 1 kind of handicapped bird, Levi (Cockatiel) however, he can get around on the set-up I have okay.
3~ Are there any budgeting tips you discovered while doing your setup?
My set-up is pretty much a DIY set-up, I am not able to hang things from the ceiling, so I had to work around that. After thinking and planning out, I got some rope and (plastic) chanins, hung hooks up on the walls, and attached rope and chahins and then I hung up boings, atoms, swings and etc from the rope. It doesn’t look as good as set-ups I have seen, but it works, my birds are quite happy with it, and they are always using it. This is an idea if anyone else isn’t also able to hang things from their ceiling.. it definitely was a cheap way of doing it.
4~ Is your setup changeable or stationary and do you add or make changes continually or do things stay primarily as is?
The whole set-up isn’t really changeable, I mean, I couldn’t exactly expand it (as much as I would love to) as it is in my bedroom, but I am always moving things around and adding onto it. I like to move things around and make it a bit different at least a few times a month.
5~ Where did you find your materials if you made it yourself or where did you purchase the setup and do you have favorite places to purchase safe toys and/or supplies that you find reliable?
The supplies like the plastic chains , rope, and hooks I got from Bunnings (all safe, I made sure). The boings, swings, nets, atoms, and such I got from a few favorite different stores:
ParrotsPlay Bird Toys
eBay My World - dickybirdtoys
parrot toys items - Get great deals on BIRD TOYS, HANDMADE BY US WITH LOVE items on eBay Stores!
parrot toys items - Get great deals on Wooden rope non toxic toys, Plastic toys items on eBay Stores!
6~ Do you have a favorite item that you bought for your setup?
I like everything really, I do have to say that plastic chains make things so much easier, though.
7~ If you made any DIY toys what is your bird(s) favorite and were there any failures?
I have made a lot of DIY toys, I will post the favorites below.

8~ What do you like least about your set up (if anything)?
Well, it isn’t ideal, I don’t like that I have to use rope/chains to hang stuff from, it makes everything hang low which can be a pain, not to mention it makes it all look out of place. If I had been able to hang things from the ceiling, it would look much neater.
9~ What do you like most about your setup?
All the stuff I have hanging up for them.
10~ Did your bird(s) take to the setup right away or did they approach it tentatively needing time to adjust and do you feel their age was a factor?
The only 2 that took to it right away were Mishka and Quinn (Cockatiels) they would try hide when I went to get them off to begin with. The rest needed time to adjust, but it only took a matter of a few weeks.
11~ Any future renovations planned?
Not as of right now, that certainly could change though.
