I got given millet from a friend who previously had a cockatiel. The packet says BEST BEFORE: 22 of December 2022. Is it still okay to feed to my pet bird or should i just feed it to the wild birds? I've tried to look it up but it says "It is not safe to feed you bird expired food". I'm a bit unsure what to do :shifty:o_O

Probably got an expiry date for a reason. I give millet sprays to my hermit crabs and they can get mildew on/in them after a while. Play it safe and feed to the wild birds ;)

You could try sprouting some of the seeds and see if it's truly dead or rancid ;)

Best by is not an expiration date. It literally means that it will be freshest by that date and the company can't guarantee it's freshness past that date. Almost all food, treats, medications, etc in the US have to have a best buy date on them by law.

If they look good, and don't smell funky (the oils in seeds can turn rancid, which IS bad to eat), it's probably just fine.
