Dr. Jesse Fallon is at Cheat Lake Animal Hospital, Morgantown WV. Phone 304-594-1124. Dr. Fallon used to work for the National Aviary in Pittsburgh and is very experienced with all types of birds from finches to raptors. There is a wild bird and nestling rehabilitation facility onsite as well. I have taken canaries, pigeons, Brazilian cardinals, Mourning doves, Killdeer, and Cooper's hawks to Dr. Fallon. He is very knowledgeable. He is also a nice person. The big downside is dealing with the clinic staff, who do not seem to understand that a sick or injured bird will likely not live long enough to wait 10 days for an appointment. The clinic does however offer 24/7 emergency service (for a higher price), but be very sure to specify you need a BIRD VET. If you are an experienced birdkeeper and know what to do and what you need, once Dr. Fallon has seen a couple of your birds and gotten to know you he is willing to let you have things like antibiotics to keep a sick canary alive until you can get in for a scheduled appointment. Meds to take home will be prepared in individually measured doses so the less experienced owner does not have to worry about getting the dose right, and someone will show you how to administer the med if necessary. Necropsy examinations can be done, and the results will be discussed in detail by the vet either in person or on the phone. Dr. Fallon is also very good about "patient teaching" for bird owners. Summation--the vet is very, very good but many of the clinic staff know nothing about birds and there can be a long delay to get your pet seen, so you need to be very plain about the urgency of your problem.
