Evaporative Humidifier

My doctor told me I need a humidifier for my chronic dry eye syndrome. I read evaporative humidifiers are lower maintenance but they require some chemicals to keep them clean. Are they safe to use in the same household as my parrot? Or can anyone suggest an evaporative humidifier that comes with a filter system or something instead?

I use an evaporative. I bleach clean at least once every 2 weeks. Filter changed monthly to every other month. This is close to the kind I have:

I do not use any additives to the water, electing for frequent washing instead, which achieves the same purpose.

thank you ! Can you explain in more detail how you bleach clean the filter? How long do you rinse it afterwards? I worry bleach is so strong for our birdies... So i rarely use it!

You could also use F10, it's just more expensive.

Bleach gets a bad rep but it breaks down quickly when exposed to water and light. I just rinse it until it doesn't smell like bleach anymore.

so do you spray the bleach on the filter or put it in the bathtub and leave it in a bleach diluted solution for 10-15 mins?

I wash the unit first with soapy water, then put the the filter back in the unit and soak the whole thing in bleach for about 10 minutes. Then rinse the filter and unit thoroughly.
