Egg Carton Toys (Safe???)

Hi!

I am thinking of cutting an egg carton in half and using it as kind of a ladder toy for my birds (will lean it up against against a perch.) When I got my budgies from the pet store, they where unfortunatly clipped. Thankfully, they are growing back and they can sort of fly (can't really go up that high.) Because of this they have to climb along the outside of the cage in order to get back to there perch. This can be a long proccess and I feel bad, so I decided to try and make a ladder for them to get up. Is this safe? Is there anything I should do to the carton first? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

They're usually fine, but if they're visibly soiled don't use them. I do wash the foam ones though! If you're worried about it, you can buy unused ones at farm markets or online!

I have a paper one on top of my cage that I throw seeds in, and rumbled paper for him to toss away (m,y method of making him foliage). I would not do the foam cartons. Even though I am not worried about my budgie biting it since he only chews on seeds, millets, and pellets and ignores everything else in life in front of him, just playing it safe with a papery type carton.

All the budgies I've owned love biting anything paper, but don't swallow. My first budgie used to make a perforated edge on my homework workbook. I purchased twine made from paper on AliExpress and use it to make toys or tie things for my birds. They never get tired of playing with the ends. However, I would caution to use only paper that is not coloured.

I have to be cautious due to paper eating.

Are they actually eating the paper or just biting off a piece and playing with it in the mouth for a minute orr so. My birds often do that with a feather they've plucked while grooming. But they don't swallow. They roll it around in their mouths until it becomes a tiny ball and continue to play with it in the mouth until it accidentally drops.
