We are awaiting the arrival of another baby budgie. Trouble is that there are 4 other babies tramping around in the box and I worry a new hatchling may get trampled to death. How is this situation remedied?
Two clutches? Very interesting. Are these from the same hen?
How many eggs do you have ready to hatch?
Once the first egg starts pipping, remove the elder chicks. Leave the younger ones in the nest and raise the 2 week chicks yourself.
I decided to try a different approach. All the chicks are being fed by mom and dad. I keep a really good watch just in case. The older birds are in the rear box and new babies are in the front. A bird duplex.
Update: the second box was a good temporary fix. Way better than me trying to hand feed. Mom and Dad adapted very well to the circumstances. I now removed the second box because the youngest two chicks are a week stronger and out of danger.
