Hello :)
I want to give echinacea tea for Pasha. I can brew it with hot water and give a small syringe. Have you tried it before? How long should it use?
Thank you.

I have never heard of it being given to a parrot. May I ask why you want to give it to your macaw?

Many sources write that this is useful. Is that wrong?

I don't believe that there have been any scientific studies that have confirmed that echinacea is beneficial for humans, and I would be safe saying that no scientific studies have been done on birds.

We have a saying in the US (that applies for everywhere), "If it isn't broke don't fix it". Don't give your bird too much stuff.

PS - I cannot find that parrot rescue on the internet - did you find it anywhere.

Yes I know. It was said to be useful in too many sources. Thank you.

Echinacea is normally only “prescribed” or suggested when a bird is having health issues and everyone (including the avian specialists) is grasping at straws in an attempt to boost the ailing or terminal bird’s immune system.
In my experience, it doesn’t work. The dosage is really tiny- a macaw would get 3 DROPS a day. And even then, you can’t use it for more than a week or ten days due to potentially bad side effects.
If one is of the opinion that herbs are or can be medicinal, then one should be of the approach that medicine (herbs) should be treated with respect and not given haphazardly.

You are right. Thank you. I wanted to strengthen him with natural things.

You don’t think Pasha is strong? Is he acting funny?

He used antibiotics this week and it's over. I started using probiotics because antibiotics were harming him, and when I saw things about echinacea on the internet, I wanted to consult you too.

The best thing after a course of antibiotics is maintaining a good quality of environment. Everything really clean, good ventilation, temperature and humidity within range, access to exercise and sunlight, and good quality food.
Lol, the basics of everyday parrot care.

I personally would just keep giving the probiotic, feeding a huge variety of healthy foods and steer clear of the echinacea unless your vet prescribes it.

Stick to probiotices, it promotes good gut health. Too much echinacea in humans can be poisonous and in birds I have no idea.

You say you've seen in several sources that it's good for parrots. Can you provide links? You screenshotted one and it's a site I don't always trust so just curious.

I forgot to add them. When you are available, can you check it and confirm whether it is correct? Thank you.

All of these besides the Freedom Flight page, are directed for mammals or chickens. The chicken one says only these benefits, only one of which would be useful for parrots:

Parrot Shop link has no supporting evidence

No idea who cuteness dot com is but also no supporting evidence.

Holistic Birds cautions about dosing - what is the correct dose?? That's the key take away.

You could do more harm than good adding this to the diet.

How about using neem instead? It’s a popular one with birds and has antifungal, anti inflammatory, tons of other properties. I use it regularly.

Im not saying echinacea doesn’t work; I’ve just not heard of it’s use with birds. And I’m pretty big into alternative medicine.

Just an FYI for folks that don’t believe in it. In the late 80s I kept getting sick, like really sick. A friend introduced me to herbs and had me take echinacea, goldenseal and I think olive leaf. It worked! I stopped catching every germ that came through my studio. Made me a believer... of course just like with essential oils you have to get a good brand.

edit:Medicinal properties of neem leaves: a review - PubMed

I definitely am not against alternative medicines! I am just more comfortable experimenting on myself than my bird
