Eating cuttlebone too quickly?

I have had Kiwi, my male parrotlet since May 23rd, and I put the cuttlebone in his cage the day after I got him. His cuttlebone is almost totally gone and he has been eating it constantly. Why is this?

He has plenty of toys, and perches, etc. I am working on getting him on a better diet, he loves birdy bread and birdy mash and lately has not been eating much seed (I have only been giving him a tsp of seed in the AM and at night).

So, why is he eating it so quickly? Any ideas?

I no idea! Maybe he has a deffiency of something?

I am not sure why. If you want they make mineral blocks that a harder, and flavored. These might take him longer to get through. Sorry for no help as to the reason.

The cuttlebone is orange flavored. He seems active, happy and on the way to getting healthier.

Coming from a seed diet, he could be calcium deficient. He also could just like the taste, or find it fun to destroy. Is a lot ending up on the bottom of the cage?

I have one budgie who literally flys through cuttlebone (no pun intended). The others nibble here and there, and this girl is at it even when everyone else is sleeping.

I used to give them to Skittles but he only wanted it to destroy,he would see me looking and he would grab it and just mow through it,so it all just crumbled to the cage floor,he got maybe a mouthful of the whole thing.

Yes, a lot is ending down at the bottom of the cage, but the rest of it he eats. What is he doiing that for? He has plenty of toys and many different types too.

Maybe he likes how it shreds?

Do you have any Yucca would in his cage?

Kiwi goes through hers like crazy too...I keep hers on the grate of her cage and she goes to town! I think it is fun to destroy!

LOL, I think he shreds it because it is fun, haha! I need to get some more soon but I was not expecting him to shred/eat his cuttlebone so quickly. haha!
