Been a while since we posted (this year has been a wild ride), but we're still getting monthly-ish Dusky updates from the rescue he's with, and he's doing AMAZING with his new foster family! He's apparently having the time of his little birdy life flying around, watching (and yelling) out windows, and sneaking into his buddies' cages to steal snacks and take baths in their water bowls, haha. He LOVES living with other birds, so they're going to try and find him a perma-home with other birds around his size. He's not hand tame yet, but he does love hanging out near humans and will take treats from their hands -- especially if the treat in question is dried papaya!
Turns out the bird we were warned is a jerk who hates everyone, human and avian alike, is actually quite a little social butterfly once he feels comfortable and safe! Funny how that works.

And the latest one -- look how much healthier his feathers are after a year of being cared for and a nice molt! When we rescued him, he was absolutely covered in stress bars and his feathers were just generally a bit more dull and shaggy than they should be, as you can see in the pictures above. But look at him now:
