Saw these guys at the park. I've never seen them before. I can't find them in my native birds book...
Duckling and parent?,

They might be male and female? I love the reddish color on the wings and the white ring around the back of the neck of the adult/male (?)!!

I’m going to try using the Cornell “Merlin Bird ID” to figure it out, I’ll tell you if I get any results.

According to Merlin it’s a Ringed Teal

(You have to download area packs to see birds from that region)

Based off of this sightings map from the Cornell eBird website, they’re occasionally seen in Spain but mostly in South America

Thankyou!! I was searching for native birds, that must be why I never found a picture. We have the Eurasian Teals over here in Spain.
So now I´m wondering what they are doing in the pond. They weren´t here the otehr month on my last visit. I wonder if they were purposefully put in the park to breed... or if they arrived here from somewhere else.
The hen looks very young, she was so small and fluffy like a duckling that was almost fully grown but not quite.
If you want to see them moving, I posted a short video (skip to 3:35 - you will see the pair in the background asleep before waking and swimming over - you can watch in HD)
