I am sorry for your loss. A bacterial infection should clear up with antibiotics if that is what it is. Can you get a gram stain done for your current bird?

If it's a recurring infection, I would talk to your vet about probiotics. My first cockatiel was very prone to bacterial infections and probiotics made a huge difference for him.
