Dog's Dry Eyes Gone?

I couldn't find anything on the internet about it so I was wondering if anyone here has experience. They say don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but my dog Jack's dry eyes seemingly have cleared up. For a time his eyes were cloudy and runny and he was loosing hair around them and itching. We took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with dry eyes (idk if there's a fancy term for it). They told me it was a permanate illness. We were prescribed some medicated eye drops and he got better. But I forgot to give him eyedrops... and have stopped. Because he's fine. No discharge, no cloudy-ness, no irritation. So I was curious if it could be cured???
Jack is a Lhapso-Aphso probably 12 years old.
