I believe there have been cases of some lovebirds having a crest.

Shows for birds are what some breeders do. They breed for beauty to the standard set and ready the birds for showing with training. There are judges that award ribbons. Kind of like dog or cat shows.

They do not have a crest any more than a budgie or a conure does. They may simply have better control of certain muscles on their heads to control their head feathers than some other species do. :)

To give an example of how much control these guys have, check out little Pi. I think he is a good example, because when they are active you would have no idea how much fluff they have. He can convert himself into a fluffy cone head. The bad beak bruise from from a crash, he has since recovered so do not worry :) He is well loved and spoiled.

Normal active Pi, all feathers are streamline and tight against his adorable little body.

Happy nom nom pose. (adolescent plumage, shortly after window crash)

Then comes sleepy Pi. Who morphs into a fluffy cone head alien! (bruise was growing out, and he looked pretty gnarly at this stage...however he was actually more healed than the previous photo)

Oh, I see.
A crested budgie, like a crested canary.

I suppose what I find more interesting in this case is that it seems to be a portion of feathers used similarly to how a cockatiel uses a crest.
Mobile and communicative. Like Monica said, just very good feather control. How amazing.

But while I am on the subject are there any other parrots with this ability? I've actually just remembered one myself: the vinaceous amazon. Which has the ability to move it's feathers in a way that reminds me very strongly of a red fan parrot.

Yes, & Buddy does a control of his feathers, it's when he wants to flirt & get Mommy to say how handsome he is. (Similar to the pic directly above.) It can be just his head or his whole body. W/out that crazy male mating dance thing that Zon's do.
