Does subspecies matter?

I’m considering adopting a male of unknown subspecies. It seems like it’s a lot harder to identify subspecies for the males.

Does it really matter when it comes to the birds care or personality?

Great - thanks for info! Kind of wondered if they’ve hybridized quite a bit in aviculture too.

if you want to see a pic he’s Cosmo on this page:Birds Available
It is a very sad reality, but yes, there are far more hybrid eclectus than pure eclectus. The females were always easier to distinguish, but there were many breeders who either did not know better, thought they were breeding the same subspecies or simply did not care. It has left only a small fraction of the eclectus in the US as pure.
