I know that you can teach birds to kiss you, I do that with my lovebirds. I’m asking if they kiss each other. I’ve seen mine lock beaks and I’m curious if it’s the same as when humans give each other a kiss. Is it a common sign of affection for birds? Is it a taught behavior? Does it mean something else in bird language?

They may be feeding each other, which is a way for them to show affection.

It´s either regurgitation, or gently beaking each other beaks.

Birds don´t know what kisses are. They preen each other to show affection.

When birds ¨kiss¨ their humans, they are just copying what the human has done to them, it´s not really a kiss.

It is technically a sign of affection- more it's a way for them to say 'Hey, I wanna be your friend and share with you, even if it comes pre-digested from my gizzard'. It's a way of bonding for them, and it's perfectly normal- even a good sign, as it shows your birds are getting along. Take care to notice how often they're doing it though since doing it too much can place a lot of strain on their crop and leave one of the birds without much nutrition, wearing them out.
