DIY wood bird toys question

going to menards tomorrow to pick up some wood for a side project and got me thinking about making toys. What would be the best wood to buy for making bird toys that most menards would carry?

You must be absolutely certain that the wood has not been treated in any way. No fungicides, preservatives, nothing. Personally I would source wood from a tree surgeon, gardener, landscaper etc rather than buying it from a shop. There are just too many uncertainties in the shop's supply chain where wood could have been treated.
