Hello everyone!

Have any of you made your own climbing net? I need a big climbing net that will hang in front of a sliding glass door to help protect my crazy zooming tiels from hurting themselves. I am trying to prep and bird proof my four-season sun room so that it can serve as a bird room during the warmer months. (I plan on order and adding window decals as well, but like I said, some of my tiels are kinda crazy).

What sorts of rope material did you use? How long did it take you? I am looking for something that would be budget friendly and bird safe. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

I did like 10 years ago and I never will again

I used sisal and it was murder on my hands (like actually cut into me after a while) and it took a long time, and a lot more rope than I expected. I think for a 3 foot by 5 foot, using 1/4" sisal, it was 50 feet and a few hours.

The thicker the rope, the more you will need, as the knots will take up more of the rope.

Manilla rope is a bit easier to work with

I made one with jute rope. It was a budgie net, but took a couple of hours.

Oh yikes!! That sounds pretty painful! I use coconut rope sometimes when I attempt to DIY toys, and that cuts me up pretty badly... I was hoping there would be a gentler rope option that was still bird safe.

How big did it end up being? Did it hold up well?

Thank you both for the input! I may have to go back to the drawing board on this one. :o:

I've never made one, but here's some safe rope options:
Jute rope
Sisal rope
Seagrass (if it's a small net)
Coconut Coir rope
Or cotton if your birds dont chew it

Thanks so much! I'll compare prices and textures. :)

Coconut coir ropes are very hardy. Even my Amazon takes a long time to tear them.
