disabled cockatiel needs home (Sad Update #7)

hello! idk if this is the correct forum but about two weeks ago someone brought in a very sweet cockatiel that they found in a parking lot to the bird rescue i volunteer at. initially was told she just has a spinal injury but she has not improved at all so im certain that she's permanently disabled. i took her home to make sure she's actually getting taken care of, but cant keep her because i have an extremely aggressive green cheek who has already tried to attack her multiple times, and i already have six birds. she cant stand/walk/fly. she drags herself and she has a pressure sore from doing so. she needs her left foot and her cloaca regularly cleaned. she is a very lovely bird and loves scritches and cuddling. i am in phoenix arizona if anyone here wants her. otherwise, does anyone have any advice on how i can find an experienced owner for her? should i charge and if so how much? thanks for any advice

thank you!! the rescue unfortunately does nothing to find adopters, and they require adopters to volunteer multiple times which is an issue for people far away.

I'm surprised they don't have some sort of network which they could leverage with this situation. You could put the word out with local vet offices, and any other area rescues, to see if someone would be able to take on a special needs adoption.

ok i will try emailing vet offices if i dont hear from any potential adopters on this site within twenty four hours. thank u!!

I'd recommend finding other parrot rescue groups. A lot of them have home - home rehoming programs (meaning you'll have the little guy until someone else can take him and don't have to worry about the rescue volunteers not giving him as much love and care he clearly needs). As for doing it yourself... it's a big undertaking. Make sure that you do charge some sort of fee, as there's a lot of bad folks out there!

Such a sad outcome that they decided to put her to sleep! Makes my heart hurt! She will be able to be free and fly over the rainbow bridge.
