Just curious, I am not finding much out about shipping.
I know it's done but I wonder about the affects on the bird.
Did you have a Quaker shipped to you?

I've had lots of birds shipped to me without any issues ever. Although not a Quaker. :)

I've never had a bird shipped before. This will be my first time, with my caiques. But they're from a good breeder with a good rep, so I'm trusting her.

And I am thinking this does have to be OK.
Many breeders do it apparently with a minimum of problems.
I guess they are shipped in some sort of travel cage?

Yes, ususally a kennel with a perch screwed into it but I've had all different kinds. Some people make their own out of wood.

OK, I guess that would work.
I had visions of the poor bird being in a box with holes in it.

I ship quite often. I use a small dog plastic kennel with a perch added near the bottom of it. I shred up some newspaper and put on the bottom, then I put on the bottom some nuts, pellets, fresh fruit, and on the door I add a bowl for water.
Delta and Continental have a special program for shipping pets, and they look after them pretty good.
Just yesterday I shipped an Eclectus to Los Angeles, CA and a caique to Burl, VT. We did have a problem with the VT flight being late, but other than that all was good.
The birds usually get along just fine while in flight. I imagine they are forging around on the bottom of their kennels.

Very interesting.
I guess shipping via airlines is good when you live near a hub like I do with the hub being in Phoenix.
I could always just drive down the road some 100 miles and pick the bird up.
Then again the bird may just tolerate changing planes and layovers better than I do!:D
