Cute lill guy.
For the past six months, my buddy, chief ball-chaser, floofball, and hardcore freckel picker. A true explorer -- turn your back on him and you might find him in a different room playing with a bell, climbing a cord, arguing with a mirror, or chasing a ball down the halway. "Jasper is on the floor" became a new greeting in our house.
He was about 9 mo old, with a gigantic personality. His flight primaries were just starting to grow back out, and he was learning to fly to places he couldn't climb to. Last week he finally flew and perched on top of a shower curtian rod -- he was so proud of himself he chattered and crowed up there for a good 10 minutes!
For thanksgiving, We left he and Essie at a friends' house who have parrots -- Essie and Jasper played with them all the time -- so we could travel to the next state over for a big family gathering. Just before sitting down to dinner, we got the call. We were fortunate they could pull up a video chat and while they cradled him, we sung him a lullaby goodnight.
There was nothing more that could have been done. He had been safely isolated in his own cage, near his friends, and was last seen happily taking a bath. As best we can piece together, he may have been startled and his heart gave out. There were signs of poor circulation -- I'd been ignoring them. "That's just how he is" "he's still just a fledgling" "He'll grow out of that" "It's nothing to worry about"
I'm gonna miss my little buddy.
9 months doesn't seem that long, but I'd like to believe the 6 months he lived with us was a full and happy life.
