Oggie just reminded me of a recent story I never shared..

I usually pronounce Oggie as "Awgie" but also affectionately call him "Oogie Boogie"
When he wants to be picked up he says "Ah-gie?".
When he is begging for treats he will say "good birdie" but alternate it with a sound more like 'Oo-kie'.
I totally thought he was just saying his name both ways like I do.

Our six year old nephew stayed the weekend a month or so ago and when he heard Oggie begging, he responded "Cookie? You want a cookie?" And Oggie started dancing in circles.
I never realized it before. But I hear it now. He is *definitely* saying cookie.

Since the kid actually had cookies through out the weekend, I had to start saying "No cookie for the bird".
Now Oggie is saying "cookie bird!" sometimes instead of just "good birdie".

So.. next time you adopt an already talking bird, get yourself a child translator.

Cookies, cookies, cookies, cookies, that’s good enough for Oggie! I couldn’t refuse a cookie to a bird who clearly asked for one. :eat:

my quaker Neptune i got as a baby only 7 weeks old ( tho fully weaned by abundance) so he wasn't talking yet.

When he started talking a month or more later. He said some things he learned from his breeder . One was I wanna cookie! Said in her kids voice. No Bueno in her husband's voice and laughed like her. Its amazing what he picked up as a baby.

Love hearing such happy stories.
Definitely deserves some birdie cookies :)
