Hey guys! My cockatiel kiki, has a BLACK TOE as a result of getting a string caught up between the toes. It's now turned black. I've tried immersing the toe in warm water, but that was not of much use. Its a little swollen proximal to the toe. Kiki has been kinda limping but she doesn't seem to have much pain. She is not picking on it too. There are no avian vets here. Can someone help me out? I'm afraid that it might spread to the other toes. Been around 5hrs since I noticed the issue. It looks like a DRY GANGRENE to me. I really hope she gets well soon. IMG-20200623-WA0008.jpeg

That is definitely not good. I'm sure this is painful for your tiel. It's doubtful this toe can be saved and does need medical attention. You certainly don't want infection to set in to the surrounding foot. Is that a long curled toenail on the adjacent toe? Where are you located? You do need to see a vet with this.... as soon as you can.

I would contact vets in your area asap. (And welcome to the forum.) I hope your tiel will be okay.

The toe regained its color in a day as we kept warming it. But it has started to shrink now and turned black again. The foot is now swollen. We don't have avain vets here. I don't know what to do 20200704_152330.jpg

We don't have avain vets here. I don't know what to do
Do you have any vets nearby?
I am not 100% sure, nor am I a vet, but it may need to be amputated.
Also that next nail next to it (on the front toe) needs clipped urgently.
Maybe a regular vet can help.

I tried reaching out to vets in my city. None treat a bird. I'm helpless now

Oh that looks bad :(
It is shrinking because it is dead. I really hope you can find a vet to help you, that has to be painful for your bird.
