Cockatiel (or any parrot) with allergies?

Hey guys,

I've long suspected that one of my cockatiels may have allergies. It's obviously very difficult to test for, but there have been times of being more sensitive to dust when my other birds aren't, or he will have a few wet snorts and then nothing for a while.

He went to the vet this week to get checked out as he is tail bobbing and its more pronounced than I'd like and I was concerned. After a full physical exam, the vet said his lungs and air sacs were completely clear with no noise, he has no nasal discharge at all, his heart is healthy with no murmur, his crop is emptying normally, body condition is great, poops are normal. He also doesn't produce a sound with each breath, so no clicking, wheezing etc.

He couldn't pinpoint an exact cause to the problem, but agreed that environmental things or allergies could be something to consider.

We have two HEPA air purifiers, no non stick stuff, no harmful chemicals, no airborne irritants, but the humidity in our place is a bit higher than I'd like. I also recently fully stripped their cages and replaced all of the toys with fresh, clean ones.

We are giving Baytril and Metacam a go for a week then reassessing for him going under for bloods and x-rays, but I hope it doesn't come to that. He wasn't able to do this on the day otherwise we would've done it.

Has anyone experienced a cockatiel (or any other parrot) which has allergies? I'd like to hear your experiences.

Nala my Green Cheek Conure had presumed allergies about as long as I had her (11 years) they were worse in the spring and summer and almost non existent in the winter months. Luckily the worst she got was slightly red nares from sneezing but I wouldn't call it excessive thankfully.
I would mostly steam her in the shower every few days and she was a big water bowl bather which would help as well
I always ran an air filter but admittedly never noticed it help her at all unfortunately.
