Clipping?

My vet thinks my bird should be clipped, due to her fright flight. She’s whacked herself a couple times, but also he thinks she would be safer. Media I’ve read says clipping is bad for quakers, so I’m not sure. I might clip for the winter? And see how it goes. But I want good insight into it first.

If it is short term, and for a safety issue, it may not be the worst idea to try it, but be careful as she will not know that she is clipped and will try flying. This could cause her to fall. When my veterinarian did this to Michael, she did a light clip so that he could still safely glide for lack of a better way of describing it.

It can be bad but if it’s for safety reasons it’s understandable! How long have you had ur quaker? When I first got mine he bumped into things a few time but he’s learned his surroundings now and hasn’t had any issues! You also mentioned it’s fright flight, is there anything in particular scaring her that you could help her learn to be more comfortable around? If you decide she needs it for safety go for a light clip so she can still glide safely. If you have access to another avian vet you could try consulting with them to get a second opinion!

Around a month or so. She’s displaying fast attachments to my other birds, in particular my IRN. o_O

My vet thinks that Oscar's spinal injury could well be from having been clipped, not knowing it, and trying to fly and having a really bad landing. However, we'll never know for sure.

I'm definitely against clipping!!
Give walking tours of your home with your bird . Go from cage out about 4 feet to a landing spot , like piece of furniture, have them step off to thst and be k to you for a treat. Then walk them back to cage , then back out to a different spot and repeat. Start with sight line from cage to the spot they can land. Then walk the perimeter of the room and back to cage. You can repeat all those steps over a couple of weeks .
Once they learn flight paths and lay out, they should really improve. With practice even a spooked frantic flight they can navigate safely. A big thing is giving them places to land
