I recently attended a lecture given by Jose Birmingham from HARI.
During her presentation she talked about a new product called Clay-Cal that is supposed to help our birds with all kinds of issues.
It is essentially Bentonite Clay in a granulated format.
I know that clay is used as a cleanse for humans so maybe that's what the macaws are trying to get from the clay licks?
I have tried the big blocks of imported clay but my macaw just banged his beak on it and then ignored it - brat!!!
I've been offering it to my macaws to see what they do with it.
They are very healthy birds already so I guess they really don't "need" it but I thought what the heck.
My B&G likes it which doesn't surprise me because he likes digging for grit and small rocks in the garden.
Our GW is ignoring it so I'm going to start sprinkling it on his soft food.
Our Meyers is paranoid of new foods so he avoids it
I just thought I'd put this out here and see if anyone else is trying it and if they see any benefits from it so far.
