Oh God, I just lost Citrine.
I don't know what happened.

Yesterday he was playing and sitting on my finger eating millet..
This afternoon I saw him walking on the bottom of the cage, but he does that sometimes looking for things to peck at ..
When I finished work I saw him sitting on the bottom again, so I ran over to check on him. I picked him up and he just immediately collapsed in my hand and was gone!!

I have wrapped him up for a necropsy and left a message with my vet..
His keel bone feels sharp and I realized I haven't weighed them in awhile like I used to do regularly, so I have no idea if he was suddenly underweight.. I weighed Cypress just now and he is normal..

I didn't notice any vomiting or bad poops or anything..
I thought I was a better bird mom than this..
Oh my baby boy.. he was the strong, bold, brave one..

He was only 3...

Oh no! I’m so sorry to read about your sweet Citrine! I do hope the necropsy and your vet can provide you with more information.

Oh boy that’s tough.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
You really should not be blaming yourself- you’ve done nothing wrong!
Sometimes unfortunately things like this happen.
Hopefully the necropsy gives some insight.

I just feel so horrible for Cypress, who hasn't quite even realized he is alone now..
I tried to show him the body when it happened, but he had no reaction. Now the lights just went off for the night and he has started to call out..
:(:(

He is my shy boy, I don't know what he will do with his brother

It hurts so much to lose them, I hope you can find out what happened, and maybe it will bring you a tiny bit of consolation. Please try not to feel guilty. You love your birds like we do.

I hope you get some answers, but even if you do not, your boy was loved and he knew that judging by how he knew he was safe in your hands. :sadhug2:

Please don’t be hard on yourself! I hadn’t been weighing my boys lately either. Sometimes life is hard and we do the best we can! You are a caring and thoughtful parront and Citrine knew he was loved!

I hope he did.. I keep questioning whether I remembered to feed them enough..
All three cages are next to each other but what if I accidentally missed them and didn't realize it.. Cypress has always been less active/fatter, Citrine wouldn't have had as many reserves..
They'd normally holler at me if they finished their food but maybe I was working too hard and didn't hear..

That's a horrible thought. But if it wasn't my fault then it might be an illness and that's bad for the other three..

This sucks. I never thought one of the littles would leave me so soon.

Please try not to ‘awfulize’ about what may not have even happened. :sadhug: Cypress’s weight being normal suggests that you did not continually forget to feed them.

It could have been any number of things, many of which you have no control.

Sending good thoughts and prayers. Try to get some sleep.

Sorry to hear about this. I hope your vet can provide some answers.

Maybe it was actually his time. Genetics, inbreeding, environmental factors before you got them, etc. could all have influenced this outcome.
