It is with great pleasure that I announce the
Celebirdy for the month of June 2021

1. How did you acquire your bird?
I got Cappuccino at a bird store two hours away from my house. I couldn’t leave her there after she crawled up my arm and nestled into my hair.
2. What is your bird's name, species, age and sex?
Cappuccino is a female pearl cocktail, and she is five years old.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
Cappuccino’s biggest trick is how she can be so bratty, but then turn around and be so lovable that she melts my heart. Some of the naughty things she does are chew on the blinds, constantly dive bomb poor Sunset, steal food, and nibble on the plants. She has such a strong personality that she helps with Niko’s egg laying, simply by sharing a cage with her. There is no peace with Cappuccino around!
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
Cappuccino’s favorite foods are those that anybody else is eating, especially eggs and popcorn.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
Well it’s not funny, but one of the most amazing things Cappuccino did was to get back home after four days outside. She was out in a forest with birds of prey everywhere, temps at night in the 40’s, an intense thunderstorm with pouring rain and multiple trees getting hit by lightening. She knew her house though, and on the last day after I hadn’t see her for over 24 hours, she came soaring overhead like a jet airplane out of nowhere calling to us frantically. Luckily she landed on a neighbors roof and I was able to get her down.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
She makes me smile with her strong personality, and she keeps me on my toes. I couldn’t imagine life without her, or being able to eat my food in peace. She brings a lot of love to our household.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
Cockatiels are wonderful little birds, and can be good family birds, but don’t have unrealistic expectations. Many cockatiels do not like scratches like all the ones on social media seem too.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Cappuccino is fairly quiet. She calls for me when she knows it’s time to get out of the cage, and then she can get very excited. Most of the time she’s not loud at all. She also likes to fly around the house when she’s out, but she only plays with toys occasionally.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
Cappuccino likes to snuggle against my nose and get scratches. If I don’t scratch her exactly the way she desires, she “bites” my nostrils. She thinks it’s a funny spot to mess with no matter how often I tell her it’s not. She also pulls out the hairs on my arm if I don’t give her scratches right when she wants them.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
Cappuccino doesn’t talk, but it’s just as well because she probably would constantly say, “Stop bitting my nose!” and other reprimands.
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat? Cappuccino likes eggs, popcorn, millet and safflower seeds.
