It is with great pleasure that I announce the
Celebirdy for the month of February 2021
@Dona 's Dori
1. How did you acquire your bird?
I bought Dori from our Avian Avenue friend @Matto from BeMore Bird Supplies. Dori's Dad is Gigi's sibling from a different clutch, so she is Gigi's niece!
2. What is your bird's name, species, age and sex?
Our baby's name is Midori and we call her Dori. Midori is a Japanese girl's name that means green. My son lives part time in Japan and his girlfriend suggested this sweet name. Dori is a dark green Lineolated Parakeet, 2 months old and female.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
So far Dori can do a juicy kiss that she learned from Gigi. I'm also amazed at how easily she flies straight up from the floor like a helicopter.
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
Dori is a big fan of Roudybush mini pellets. She definitely got the memo that Linnies are big eaters. She spends lots of time upside down in her pellet dish. She has also tested corn, peas, apples and Nutriberries.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
Dori is such a great flyer! She can change direction mid flight, briefly land like a plane, and lift off immediately again. I laugh out loud every time she shows off this skill!
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
I have lived with birds for over 40 years. I've never had a bird so quickly accept me. Dori flew to me on Day 1 and has been flying to me many times each day since. I can't believe how gratifying it is to be liked from the start.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
I had no idea what a Linnie was on the day I called Brian from The Parrot's Nest and asked if he had any budgies. He said no, but he had a new clutch of baby Linnies that were just born in his store. When I researched them online they seemed like a great fit for our family. I bought Gigi and have become a Linnie cheerleader for the last 3 years! When I was ready to add to the flock I knew it had to be another Linnie. Linnies are small attractive birds, often sweet, friendly and interested in people, fairly quiet, enthusiastic eaters, able to talk, and flock oriented like budgies. The downside to Linnies is that they often become hand shy and can have liquid poops that seem impossibly large to have come from a bird of their size!
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Dori has a lot to say, but it's generally very quiet. She leans forward and chats to me often. I have a feeling that she will mimic many sounds. She has only done a few contact calls and it has been in response to Gigi's contact call. We live in a condo and hoped to have birds that kept our neighbors happy with us. So far, so good. Next door they have a piano, we have 2 parrots. Seems about the same.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
Dori always looks like she has a plan. Her little legs are far apart and she leans forward, trying to decide what's next. It's also super cute when I wake her and she immediately bites and plays with the closest toy. It's like "Hello! I'm up and ready for the day!"
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
No words yet but she has learned Gigi's juicy kiss. I have a feeling she will be a talker.
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Dori loves her Roudybush pellets. It's hilarious how long she will eat, upside down in the bowl.
