Hi!!
I'm doing research on canaries. I want to get my grandpa a canary since he loves birds and has had a lot when he was younger. I will be checking on the canary and making sure it gets taken care of (my grandma is well enough to take care of it, and if they can't take care of the bird anymore I can take it in).
When searching how to take care of canaries I mainly come across advices of putting it in a small cage with dowel perches and a bowl of seeds with no enrichment. I have had parrots in the past so knowing what i know about them that just seems wrong to me. Can anyone help me with what I need to know? Also I have read they dont shred toys like parrots do but what kind of toys do they use/what do i need to look for in a toy??? And what is good diet wise? If there's anything else i need to know please tell me cause i am kinda lost.
Okay thats it thanks in advance!

:welcome2: I’d talk to your grandparents first. Sometimes people want to treasure the memories they already have or they might not feel up to caring for a pet or they might want quiet in the early morning.

It really matters if they have time and a Avian Vet that is easily accessible, learning about what to get and how to take care of the canary isn't the problem. It's if they have what it takes to look after the bird and to give it a happy life.
