Hello!

I was wondering if I could take my budgie with me to a friend's house. I'll be staying there for several hours and don't want to leave her alone.
I have a small travel cage, and I was planning to let her out once I get there. However, she's only been outside once, so I'm worried that traveling by car and being in a new place might be stressful for her.

What do you think? Thanks !

My budgies travelled by car when I first collected them and some unlucky few have travelled to the vet and back.

It's a necessary evil for me.

I cover three sides and the ceiling of the cage in order to limit visual inputs. Moving the cage in and out of the car, I cover all four sides. Some of my budgies have been quite relaxed once settled and have even fed themselves on millet treats during the journey.

Hello! I have traveled with all of my parrots, and I too cover their cage, and make sure that the car environment is comfortable for them.

It depends on the bird. Most of mine would be stressed by it and better off at home. Alistair would have a blast (we've taken her on recreational car rides before and only don't now because of Gertie, who would NOT enjoy it). Buddy would probably like it, but we're still working on bonding/manners so we're not there yet. How comfortable and adventurous nis your budgie? The other issue is whether your friend's house is bird safe; I wouldn't risk it if the friend doesn't know about how sensitive birds are and have a safe space.

Your friend also may have dangerous animals. There are many people anthropomorphizing animals who truly believe that their cat or dog is special & would never hurt a bird. That doesn’t make it true.
