Mizzely,
I keep the temperature in my place around 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Isn’t that too cold for a parrot? Isn’t the best temperature for parrots 80 to 82 Fahrenheit?
My house never gets above 68 in the winter; it usually is around 65. I offered a heat panel to my Linnie and he never used it last year. My Jardine's uses a heated perch because it seems to help his arthritis.

I live in a warmer climate and have no heating or A/C. In the winter it drops to about 70F, and in the summer I manage to keep it from exceeding about 94F.
Your 72F sounds fine! ;)

For my 16 week old CAG, I placed all her perches low in the cage in case she fell. CAG's are clumsy babies. I also placed new, thick, grey bath towels on the cage floor, at night only, to break any falls. Several months later I relocated the perches higher in her cage. I don't cover her cage however I have a large blanket near her cage should the need arise. BTW as your Pionus masters flying, the crash landings are probably going to be worse than any tumbles in the cage. My CAG earned her nickname "Crash".
