Hello
I’m having trouble with my Green Amazon. Does anyone have a trick to stop him from chewing the bars of his cage? Thanks.

How big is his cage? Does he chew in one particular area? When does he do it?(maybe only when you are eating something and he wants a piece for example?) Does he have toys he chews? These questions will help form an idea of why he is doing what he does, it may come from frustraion, boredom, or he may like the feeling he gets while chewing the bars for example.

I have a Senegal. He destroyed the powder coat on 2 cages. A California cage and a King's cage. I ended up investing in a used stainless steel. He still chews and pings the bars but no coating to remove.

Ugh. If you provide tons of toys and out-of-cage time, and they are still doing it it's a hard habit to break. I have large wall toys in my store, if it's only certain spots they chew, but often they move areas.

I'm going to be parrot sitting for a friend, and her monster Volar was such a bar chewer. I already told her that if he started the habit back up, she needed to supply me with his cage, as my cages are pristine.

My U2 Echo chews on bars frequently. It's annoying habit for sure and, like @Macawnutz said it's hard habit to break. Echo was in a too small cage for about a year before I got him. He'd actually run his beak across a bar to the point he had a grove in his beak. Thankfully he broke that habit. Like @zoo mom I got him a used stainless steel cage. Getting him a bigger cage helped alot though he's still pretty hard on his cage

Hello
I’m having trouble with my Green Amazon. Does anyone have a trick to stop him from chewing the bars of his cage? Thanks.

Hi. My Blue-Throated Macaw does that too, and has been doing so as long as I can remember. I started passing cereal boxes through the cage bars, weaving them in and out. This alleviates her need to chew or keep her beak busy. It doesn't keep her from doing it to the cage bars completely but she does occupy herself with the boxes, so it's a win.

Baby started doing that tonite. When she misbehaves I ignore her. She will get in her cage and be quiet. Maybe a chew toy, a sola ball, they love to chew on those.
