Hello all
tl;dr- Budgies sleeping most of the day today. One of them is a new baby, so being unenergetic is unusual.
I recently got a new budgie to be a buddy for my existing budgie on Saturday after his original brother passed a couple months back. I didn’t mind foregoing the quarantine peroid as the person whom I purchased my new little guy from is a highly reputable specialist budgie breeder who I’ve purchased from in the past and took him to the vet as soon as I got him.
Everything has been going very well, my original bird Nemi has been getting along swimmingly with the new baby Comet, but it kind of intimidated by the energy and slightly poor flying of baby birds. Comet on the other hand already sits on my shoulder and, while very skittish at first, is very willing to try anything for millet.
All has been good until today when, I woke them up as normal and gave them food. They both ate as normal and did their normal wakeup routine. But instead of waking up fully, they both decided to go back to sleep. I shrugged and said maybe they wanted a bit more shut eye. The problem being they have been sleeping -> eating -> drinking -> playing for a few minutes -> back to sleep for a couple hours. I’m fully fine with Nemi chilling out as he’s an adult budgie and goes at his own pace, but for Comet, a newly weaned budgie, to have no energy was very concerning.

Some environmental changes or factors to note:
- They played and flew a TON yesterday, especially Comet so they may be tired
- It has recently turned very cold for the first time this year and I’m not sure the heater heats their area very well. I gave them a space heater this afternoon just incase.
- I’ve had to add both their foods together in the same food bowl which has introduced both of them to different diets
- Sleeping a lot as mentioned
- No tail bobbing
- Singing while napping as normal
- Not overly puffed but comfy puffed when sleeping. When not sleeping, relaxed puff.
- Still very willing to do stuff for millet
- Still plenty vocal when they are awake
- Preening normal amount
- Not playing with toys much
- Not coming out of cage unless prompted or upset
