Budgie Passed Today

My budgie, Sweetpea, suddenly passed today. I had noticed for the past week or so he would sit fluffed on his perch. But because of the coronavirus, I couldn‘t take him to an avian vet, so I don’t know the cause.

I got Sweetpea from a pet store 6 years ago. In that time he’d never been exposed to birds other than his cage mate, a 7 year old budgie (who passed just a few months ago) and my green cheek. If it were some sort of disease, would my green cheek have it by now? And what should I do with his cage, perches, and toys? Do I toss them or try to clean them?

I really wish I knew what caused him to pass. I’m so hoping it wasn’t something contagious. It would absolutely shatter my heart if I were to loose my green cheek too.

I would bleach clean all his stuff and dry it in the sun, I'm so sorry for your loss..

Thank you, I will do that. I know it might be a bit early to be thinking about cleaning, but it hurts to see his cage there knowing he’s not in it. I’d rather just put it away so it’s not sitting there reminding me.
