Budgie and eyes

Good morning to everyone!!
I have a couple questions about budgies
Are there any viral diseases that affect the eyes? I ask because I have an aviary with 9 parakeets and it seems that all of a sudden they seem to have eye issues. I only have 2 with reddish eyes although no discharge. But everyone else keep standing around with their eyes closed. Maybe I’m just reading to much into it but just wanted to see someone else’s experience and opinion. My doctor told me to put terramycin in the eyes of the ones with the red eyes, just in case which I’ve been doing. It has gotten a bit better although I want to know if there is any way to prevent them from scratching their eyes after inputting the medicine? because they start rubbing and scratching their eyes like crazy.
But does anyone know what could be causing this? Maybe it has happened to someone before? Thank you for reading all this and answering my questions!!

Can you post a clear picture of what you’re seeing?

What kind of Dr gave you advice?
Was it an avian vet.

@Ripshod might be able to offer some advice if they’re online any time soon.

Only one of the birds has a worse infection but the others just close their eyes a lot and blink a lot.

It was a dog and cat vet although he sees some birds everyone once in a while
Where I live he’s the only one around
That’s why I wanted to see if maybe somebody here new something about what it could be.

Eye problems are very concerning in a flock. The vet told you to use the drops as a broad treatment for treating any infection but clearly couldn't diagnose.
Whereabouts are you (roughly)? Maybe one of our members can locate an avian specialist for you. Failing that do you know any local breeders?
In the meantime keep them and their cages spotlessly clean.

I live in Florida and it’s been raining a lot the past couple of weeks although I keep them covered to make sure they don’t get wet and then uncover as soon as the rain passes. I don’t know if that could be an influence to their eyes.
i don’t know any local breeders either all my parakeets have been rescues from people that didn’t want them or not living their best lives.
Yep that’s what I have been doing, cleaning the cage every day and making sure it’s all clean.
i was thinking maybe an irritant but I’m just not sure because I havnt done anything differently recently.
