If left out the smell will subside.

Wow, great idea!! I should definitely get some vet wrap.....Also just yesterday I made my very first bird boing! If anyone wants to try making one, this is how I made mine!:
1. Get longgggg dog rope toy
2. Unknot it
3. Straighten some wire hangers (no paint and no sharp edges)
4. Stick them straight through the middle of the rope
5. Take a pair of pliers, bend the end of the hanger, and shove the pointy tip right back in the rope
6. Double-check it to make sure that there are no pointy bits, and cover up the ends
It's working perfectly for my lovies so far, and it is SO much cheaper than the store bought ones! Also, it doesn't have those terrible ends so it can actually fit in my aviary!!!

But I love the vet-tape idea!!

Latex always smells when newly exposed to air. It doesn't mean anything other than it's made from latex.
I guess not all vet wrap has latex in it? This one wasn’t sticky and didn’t smell

Good ole' Walmart came through again for me. I love that stuff. 6 pack of 2 inch and 5 yards long for $11.99. Free shipping for orders 35 dollars and up.

Mine's 3M Vetrap. 4". Made in the USA. It does say it contains latex.

They were packaged loosely though. Makes me think that's why. It was like the manufacturer didn't have a shrink wrapper. Guess I know why there's all that extra air now - maybe so it doesn't smell.

Last night it took me an hour to remove latex vet wrap from the tan vet wrap covered boing. It never smelled though. It was all pooped on and yucky. The latex free I used instead will come off easily and I plan to replace it often when it starts looking icky. So even though I didn’t consider the glue factor last night I’m pleased with the serendipity of events!

Latex that doesn't smell is either not wrapped airtight or was aired out before being packaged. In any case, smell is not indicative of safety or chemicals or manufacruring process.

When LScoot had a fractured ankle the vet used latex wrap (non smelly lol) and changed the bandage 2x weekly. She had to use so much force it was scary! i wonder if she uses latex free now, I don’t want to find out, nvm :scared2:
