I have accepted the offer. What will thsi information be useful for, how do i read it, & what will it tell me? WOuld it be good for future vet visits? For traveling/moving out of country/state?

What blood tests are they doing? For $25 I would only expect a DNA test.

What information you'll be able to see if highly dependent on the type of tests done. If they did any CBCs etc that will give you baseline information as a healthy bird to compare with future tests if she were to get ill.

The breeder is VERY reputable and does many at once, so she gets them for cheaper

I'm not sure what tests were done.. I could ask!

My blood tests are always in the $200 to $400 range  Most places/breeders charge $35 to $65 for a DNA test and offer them at a discount which is why I would assume it's a DNA blood test. That's not any slight against the breeder or their reputation; just my own assumptions based on past experiences :)

I agree if @Mizzely about the cost of bloodwork. I'm sure the price depends on your location and how many avian vets are around your area. The blood work we have done is CBC, PBFD, Chlamydia/Psittacosis and any other that our avian vet feel they should have done. We adopted Nikki my CAG and less than a year later she was diagnosed with aspergillosis. We did't know she had it untill her 6 month check up. We were sent to a specialist 3 hours away. We tried for a year to save her. The cost didn't included my hotel stay on the nights I wouldn't leave her. Please have your breeder tell you what she is testing your parrot for. I have never heard of a breeder that does bloodwork. I wish you luck with your new parrot. It's great your asking questions, better safe than sorry.:)

Hello I have had a GCC almost 2 months now. I took him/her to the vet for a checkup and she said he was fine. A few weeks later I took him back because he seemed to be a little weak, like he kept sliding down the cage. she said he was a bit stressed and they were not able to get enough blood for a full test so she did some "MINI" test. I don't recall the name right now. However the test was to tell if he/she had any sickness. He was dehydrated and red and white blood cells were low. she said it gave her concern he may have a liver problem but wanted to wait a few weeks to see how "Pittsburgh" behaved and they gave him some fluids. He has been doing great, until yesterday I noticed he walked back and forth a lot trying to poopie. Every morning he usually just says " Hi baby go poopie?" I say yes baby gm go poopie and he struggled a bit. So we have an appointment for Wednesday. I want a full test done. Yesss another couple of hundred lol but if I do a DNA test other than male or female will it tell me the exact species of my bird? I notice his colors are unlike any of the conures I see online. What other info will it tell me?

@PburghsMom Based on your photo, you have a green cheek conure. Color wise, your baby is a cinnamon turquoise. A DNA test can only tell you the gender, not species or anything else really.

Bloodwork can tell you some more specific things, but it depends on what tests are done.

It sounds like you had a Complete Blood Count (CBC) done before. You probably also want an organ function panel done if possible. That would be pretty comprehensive bloodwork.
Thank you, we hope this time we can get enough blood to do a full work up. I would be crushed if anything happened to my Pittsburgh.

Wow! Thank you. I will research them even more once I get the blood work. I’m hoping to do a complete work up but will ask the vet first so I know which I’m getting and what it does.

We had a concern today and an emergency visit because momma was concerned. My Pittsburgh's poop was white and almost solid this morning but loose by about 2pm. still white. I called our Vet and they said to come in. All is well however turns out Pittsburgh sample showed a high content of fiber. Dr.'s orders are to cut down on the veggies by half and incorporate more pellets. He has gained 4grams, got a pedicure and given his sample for the DNA test. Boy / Girl??? im so excited. I am very happy my baby has no issues and all is great however something great came out of todays visit. OUR TRUST grew tremendously. after the vet finished examining he ran across the table up my chest and under my hair. NEVER has he come to me like this. He also since I had him home stepped up on my finger!!! I love when a plan comes together. I'm a part of HIS world now. Stand by i will let you know what the sex is.

@Cinnasun I know you posted this a little over a month ago but just curious, what tests results did you receive for $25.

Thank you so much. I am very happy he is ok. Seems the vet cut his nails too short and he is having trouble holding on in the cage. He is just not the same today and it hurts my heart. He fell this morning trying to climb. His Flight feathers were cut when I got him so he is feeling lost. He stayed on me most of the day today but i feel so helpless.
