I came home and found my bird pooping dark red poops. I haven't fed any dark red foods and she doesn't eat colored pellets. I can't get in to my avian vet until tomorrow morning, possibly later. What can I do for her now?

Edit: She's also acting "normal" (talking, kissing, eating, etc), but I know they're great at hiding what's wrong.

I’m sorry I can’t help, but I hope your bird will be okay! Please keep us updated with what the vet says.

Could be several things that cause this such as metal toxicity, inflammation, ulcerations, etc. The best thing you can do is monitor your bird and get her to the vet ASAP. Are her droppings still red?

That doesn’t look like blood to me. That being said, since you don't have an explanation, I would definitely see the vet as soon as you can.

@Mantis64 has asked...... If there a chance your bird has any red dyed toys that could have contributed to the colouring you see in it's poop?

Hard to tell if that is blood or not. I think it probably is due to the bright red portions that would be originating in your bird's lower GI track or kidneys/liver.

Just keep it comfortable and be sure to tell your vet every tiny detail - you may even want to write them down.

Have you fed your bird any peppers? Rupert's poop will turn red/orange when he eats the red and orange ones.

Not sure if its blood, kinda looks like it,,if you smear it in your fingers. .does it have that blood smell? Had to describe that smell..almost salty? but bright red blood, if this is what it is, is lower GI..black blood is upper GI.. hope it's just food or a toy dye.
