Welcome to the list! I don't know how old Cheekhoe is but it can take time for new birds to warm up, especially if they are adults. The best thing to do is to just be around him, outside the cage, hanging out and talking or reading to him. You can put a millet spray in there and see if he likes it and then you can offer them from your hand from outside the cage to begin to build a positive association with you.

His responses are fear responses, he is just afraid. Don't attempt to get him out of his cage or hold him. Just open his door of the cage and allow him to choose to come out or not. Let him set the pace. Fear is a delicate emotion and you have to move slowly with fearful animals.

For the fresh food, just keep trying, it takes time. I have had some tiels that it took forever to get onto fresh food, but they do. One way to help it along is to make some birdie bread or muffins and sneak some frozen veggies into that. Hang in there. As you as you take the pressure off, you will see things get better:)
