@Spectrite and I plan on making a comic on the neglection of birds - we hope that it will teach some lessons. It will start out digitally. We need ideas on characters and themes that will make the story a bit more impactful. We will also make it bright and attractive for all ages, including children that buy budgies in a pet store without knowing the consequences that will mostly impact the poor budgie/other bird. We might have a title coming up, but you can request titles and we can take those titles into considerations.

For now, we have characters of two cockatiels, a yellow sided green cheek, a maroon belly, and a shady little parrotlet in the corner. We plan on making it more diverse, with larger birds, and we are doing the finches and most softbills too.

However, we may include comedy inside, because its birds and birds do that sort of stuff. But it will have devastating neglection lessons.

We also might do it section by section, like the first section being short and sad: "Why not to neglect a bird" or something like that. Another section may be "The happy goofballs who weren't given away", or something else. The comic's story is mostly a mess right now, but the characters are ok for the setting, excepting the fact that most pacific parrotlets are bright and loud, not shady avocado dealers... <(0)

Oh no! Not avocados ... that scoundrel!

Regarding various themes or ideas to touch on in your comics, there are so many misunderstood topics when it comes to birds. Lots of bad information and common mistakes, especially for first-time owners or people who have only a little bird experience. Even if you have had birds for a while, it is easy to make mistakes or simply not know about something important - like the dangers of Teflon cookware.

For budgies, they are inexpensive and readily available, so many people see them as an "easy" pet to buy for their children, with the expectation that they can live on inexpensive seeds and water, never leaving their tiny cage or going to the vet, even if they look sick. Like a goldfish, if anything goes wrong, a parakeet is cheap and easy to replace. New bird owners are often not prepared for the noise and mess involved. And they are clueless about the exercise and social requirements of birds, let alone the idea of providing "out of cage" time, proper training, or new toys and foraging options to keep the bird entertained.

The result is a bored, scared, depressed, and lonely parakeet that is too noisy, too messy, and no fun to interact with. With larger parrots, aggression, biting, screaming, plucking, and other problem behaviors can also push people to the breaking point. Hormonal behavior, destructive chewing, expensive health problems, the list goes on and on. It is no surprise that many parrots end up changing hands many times over their long lifespan, before they find someone that is able to handle everything that goes into keeping a parrot happy, healthy, and loved.

Breeding is another controversial topic. Lots of room for things to go terribly wrong if you don't know what you are doing or if you just "let it happen" and hope for the best. It is much better to have a plan of action for what to do when you find an egg.

"Why not to neglect a bird"
eh, that shouldn't be a title for an individual strip; something like "how pet birds are neglected" or "one story of many : pet bird neglect" might be good for a collection. Brainstorming why birds might be neglected - a lot of times unknowingly - would give storylines for a strip. Each bird can have a storyline and name, "Sophie's story" "Green's Story" etc.

"Bird care 101" would be a good collection; can give storylines for dangerous foods, dangerous smells, other pet interactions, healthy food, correct cage sizes, enrichment, introducing new birds, etc

I'd have a theme on flying. Some people don't let their birds & some birds aren't allowed to fledge, it would seem. I recently learned about this & then they can never fly.

And I'd have one on same species flock members. Most captive birds in private homes are parrots. Parrots like flocks, yet most are kept alone. It's arrogant of people to think they can fill the needs of some other species.
