Around 3 am this morning Big Bird started fussing and making strange noises. I went to check on him and he had vomited in his sleep cage. Now Iam scared, it is christmas day-no vet open. He is eating and acting fine at the moment, but I know vomiting means something bad. His poop also had some bubbles in it this morning. Is there anything I can do until I can get him to the vet? I am soooo worried!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I have read foamy, bubbly poop may be an indication of an intestinal infection.

It was quite a bit actually! Really shocked me. He is eating and drank some, but definately not himself.

I don't think E-vets are open right now, are they? Some might be. But definitely get him into the vets office as soon as you can. Perhaps upping the ambient room temp will help. I hope he feels better soon!

:hug8: Keep Big Bird warm and calm until you can find a vet that will see him. Though this thread is called Supplemental Heat, it also has information about keeping a sick bird hydrated.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this on Christmas... I hope everything looks up though. And you have a happy and healthy rest of the day.

Hi, I know you are very worried but please try and relax.

There are many good suggestions and information in the above posts. Bubbles could mean clostridium infection or gas as mentioned above. If this were one of mine I would add 1/2 tsp ACV to the birds water bowl, this will help with digestion. If you have it or can find it the herb slippery elm in powder form will coat and sooth the digestive tract. Mix SE 1 part SE to 4 parts water and feed a 1/2 tsp.

Keep your bird warm, (80-85 deg), and hydrated, do not give liquids if currently vomiting. Do not let the bird drink to much liquid at one time until it's condition improves.

Please check toys and cage for any signs of zinc where your birds has been chewing. Tell more about the poop, color, size, bubbles, etc.

As always a vet visit is best!

Thanks everyone! He is eating ok, but less active than usual. He has not vomited since the episode at 3 am. I hope I can get in tomorrow to see the vet.

Keep your Meyers warm and I would be concerned about the zinc and look for any sources. This was a problem with my Blue and Gold many years ago. There was bubbly poop also. The above mentioned medical advice is right on! Please get your bird to a vet asap tomorrow. Good luck to you.
