If it's still bleeding, try to get it to stop first using cornstarch or flour. Do not use bicarbonate. Apply pressure.
If it really won't stop bleeding you may need to pull the feather. That should be the last resort though. Clotting is a lot less traumatic for you both!

How did you get on? Did you manage to stop the bleeding with flour?
Sorry for the late response but I plucked the feather out with tweezers then gave him a bath
