Belated Elvis Gotcha Day!

I am late again but this month was Elvis's 9th Gotcha Day. I really can't believe it's been 9 years since I adopted this zany, funny, hyper adorable boy. He really is such a good bird now but some of those early days were rough. I really encourage cockatoo owners, well, any parrot owner, to be patient and not give up on them. Elvis was rehomed for biting and we went through a period where he was attacking my fiance. We worked through it and they now can cohabit peacefully. Part of it was my learning to better understand Elvis and his needs.

He is still a busy, busy bird. He loves to play and we still play catch every day. He's so smart and constantly makes me laugh. He really is the best bird- for me at least.

For his Gotcha Day he finally got a new cage. It took me forever to find one with smaller bar spacing that was bigger than his old one.

So happy belated Gotcha Day my beautiful boy.

Thank you. Elvis is wild caught. So he's been through a lot. In the 2 years before I adopted him, he was dumped at a pet store by owners saying they didn't want him anymore. Then was at the pet store for almost a year, then taken home by one of the employees who had him for almost another year. That's when he was given to the rescue for biting the new owner. So, who knows how many homes he had before that. And for as much of a rascal that he is, he's really a sensitive soul. Breaks my heart to think of what he must have went through, but he's happy now.

Echo also went through a biting phase. It can take awhile to learn their triggers, personality and read their body language. But so worth it when your able to build a bond and trust them. I'm so happy you two found each

Lol. He actually didn't but the last time I checked he his hidden stash he had 12. So.... Although a friend did give him this cute sock toy that I haven't given him yet. I probably should give it to him as a belated present.

Stories like that stick with you for a while, and sometimes you just need something light afterward to switch your head off. Even something simple like browsing a few slots on Tropica casino checking a bonus feature or watching a quick round play out can be enough of a distraction without turning it into a big thing. Still, the important part is knowing he's finally somewhere safe, comfortable and cared for. That matters more than anything.

That makes his personality make a lot more sense. With that many changes in such a short part of his life, I can see why trust might not come easily for him.


The fact that he can still be such a sensitive little character after all of that says a lot. Animals like Elvis always seem to remember more than we give them credit for.


It is sad thinking about how many places he may have been before you, but at least he finally ended up somewhere that understands him instead of giving up the moment he gets difficult.


Sounds like he landed in the right home in the end.
