Put Howard on his play stand and he started screaming. Grabbed him looking for what hurt. Found this feather by his vent growing straight down. Everytime he moves he bumps it and screams. 20220403_122515.jpg @Macawnutz have you seen any like this?

It's a blood feather Carol, which I'm sure you know. An extremely awkward position that looks to be abnormal for sure. I don't know how much handling he will allow for you to check out what is going wrong but if it's not corrected or removed chances are it's going to be bumped and bleeding. He seems to have been preening it, maybe it just got pushed in-between a few others and can go back in place?

The more I look at it... I'm not sure where it belongs.
Considering I have a DBY I'm not seeing which feather would be yellow and green at the tips. o_O
It looks to be a tail feather if I'm looking at your picture right. ???? I will harass Binky a bit later and dig down which feather it should be.

I looked at it better, it's actually a tail feather. There is no give to it at all, it's not bent. The casing is too thick compared to normal feathers. I'll send a picture to our vet, but I'm pretty sure she'll say it should be removed. 20220405_125449.jpg

Oh yah, if it won't tuck up where it's supposed to go .... it's got to go. :wtf:

I'm such a baby when it comes to pulling feathers, I couldn't do that unless it was bleeding everywhere... UGH

Yeah, I'd be worried my birds would hate me. That's why the vet trims my bird's nails.

Oh, no, Howard! I'm sorry this is happening to her! There's no way I could pull a feather, either, unless I really had no choice because it was actively bleeding.

Poor thing! I hope your vet can take care of it for you and that Howard will be much more comfortable soon.

I've had to pull one of his before. That's the problem with having a vet three hours away. We are in a high wind warning now on top of it. Lol

Oh my! We just had a storm roll through, too. Does Howard behave under such procedures or is this a two person and a towel job? Eek!

He did very well. Right before bed one night we looked down by him and there was blood all over. Called our vet and she walked us thru it. Howard handled it better than my daughter. I had to give my CAG injections before she passed so I just had to remind myself I'm doing it to help him.

Oh my GRACIOUS! How awful for you and Howard..... and your poor daughter? Give her a hug for me and tell her I felt her pain in Missouri....

Smooch Howard in the air above his little head.
