Hi everyone,

I have an 11 year old bare eyed cockatoo. I noticed today on the back of her left leg she has a dark spot where normally the skin is smooth, not so scaley, and lighter colored. She doesn’t appear to be favoring it at all. i’m just concerned that it looks like a scab with a little swelling and I know bare eyed ‘toos are prone to bumblefoot so I wanted to see if anyone here has seen this before? She has a variety of perches in the cage and a natural dogwood tree stand, there’s no sharp spots on any perches either.

It does look like a sore spot from rubbing on something. Try making everything soft in her cage or on her playstands. You can use vet wrap, towels and rope perches and see if it clears up in a couple of weeks. I hope it goes away!

You can also wrap perches with double sided fleece

You can rub some vitamin E oil, aloe vera goo,,from the plant, coconut oil, Manuka honey, whatever of these items you can get on this spot.. any of these will not hurt her if she licks or ingests it. Hope shes ok!
