Baby chick hard cop

My grandfather has a farm and he usually brings me weak chicks or other animals for me to nurse them back to health, yesterday he brought me 2 chicks, one died and the other one seems to be doing okay. Not great. He’s super underweight and was not eating, but I left food for him and it seems he eat it all, however his cop is extremely hard, rock solid, I had not had this problem before. anyone has any idea of what this might be? What should I do?

@Zara I would guess you’d want to do the same as for a parrot chick in this circumstance.
To be completely honest I never dealt with that sort of issue in any of my chicks- never even heard of anyone else dealing with it either.

I don´t know, because chicken chicks feed themselves.

this is all I could find straight up but I am not fully concentrating on any one thing I am doing- I will keep looking and see if I can find anything that does not sound so terribly frightening.

None near me That I know of, and the avian vet is closed

I’ve tried warm water and massaging if but it’s still the same she did poop and it looks normal, I’m hoping I just need to wait, I don’t know, poor thing!

What has she eaten since hatching? The answer to that may give you some idea on what is happening after looking at the main causes for impacted crops in chicks.

The warm water massage is good, applesauce or Apple cider vinegar, in a warm solution,,spoon feed, may help also..is there a bedding of corncob or similar that she could have ingested? How about a local farmer? They have a wealth of information, I wouldn't be over driving up to them,,asking help?! Most of the farmers here are helpful..

looks about a couple days old, my grandpa brought it because of how weak he is, he was with other chicks maybe he didn’t eat enough? Either way he looks really skinny, I’m not sure what it’s eaten since hatching but I know that when my Grandpa brought it in it had not eaten anythuing and I have it chickfeed, and then I noticed the food all gone and the crop hard

Update: the warm water and massage seemed to have worked the crop is empty this morning

Another update: it’s so weird, every night it gets the hard crop I do the warm water+massage and it empties in the overnight, I’m starting to wonder if that’s the reason he’s so underweight??? I’m going to try and find professional help I’ve never seen this before. Poor thing

Not sure of you have been able to figure out. The poor thing could have sour crop. Ive had it happen with an adult hen who ate to much grass. Apple cider vinegar diluted in water helps but I would ask a vet 1st do to the young age. I have never had it happen with a chick.
