Hi guys,

My dad is currently hand feeding a chick that fell out of the nest. I noticed its beak is pointing upwards - could this be a sign of a deformed beak?

He has a few adult budgies with deformed beaks in the aviary.

If yes, what can be done to fix it or would it be something that it will have to live with?

Could it be a genetic defect? You said there are others with a deformed beak. I have read others who have baby budgies with deformed beaks gently repositioning the beak during feeding. Personally, before doing that I'd want a vet to show me how and if it was recommended for the particular deformity in the baby.

The best way to deal with this is ask a vet. Then prevent more babies being born by keeping an eye on the ones with deformities and switching out any eggs they lay. Please don’t breed unhealthy birds.
