Has anyone had any luck with avicalm stopping feather picking?

The company is closed so you may have issues getting it even if it does work :(

There is at least one other company making a substitute for Avicalm. I don't recommend products here, but if you want to see the info on it it's online...

L-Theanine is the same thing. You should be able to get it at any health food store.
A friend of mine uses it on a Cockatoo that is nasty IMO. Says it helps make him more relaxed.

I used it for months with no changes in Flynn's plucking. I suppose it's worth a try, but we didn't find it to be very helpful.

If anyone is interested my local family owned pet supply stores (Animal Feeds & Needs) has some of the Avitec products in stock if anyone is interested. AviCalm $26.99, Avi-Cal Plus $18.99, Cal-D-Solve $8.79, Organic Brazilian Dende Palm Fruit Oil $11.89, Aviagra $17.39 and Featherrific (small $10.29 & big $17.99).

I'll be in their area tomorrow and @ the actual store on Sunday (bird grooming) if anyone would like me to pick something up. PM me if you do.

I was thinking of trying the Avi-Calm myself for some crabby little birdies.

I picked up a big container of it a few months back to see if it would help Jenks during those hormonal times. I only used it twice and didn't notice any difference but like I said only used it twice.

I have the large size as well and used it here and there. I didn't see any effect calming Sophie with this. So since she is a nut job about picking so much if she wears her vest NO picking cannot get to her chest but she can her lower legs and talons. If she has no vest on, she's extremely active- another Too comes out LOL but once the vest goes on she's back to quiet and chewing maniacal Sophie.

If she is uncovered she will pick, I believe her behavior is what is will always be. Love her nonetheless, it's our life!

In regard to maniacal chewing it's wood toys she can destroy so much in no time!

I read my post she is not a maniac chewing in herself lol! Toys have no mercy once her vest goes back on.

I have had absolutely zero results with avicalm... i picked mine up not too long ago on birdsuppliesplus.com i think it was... where we get our soft collars from. not sure if it is stiiill available but i know i didn't order too too long ago. Although it was pricey considering it virtually did nothing for my bird who gets especially manic during plucking. Once i tried mixing some in some chamomile tea.... i thought maybe that helped make her sleepy some, but it was also right before her bed time (which is when she happens to have a big chug of water after dinner). We do keep some avicalm mixed up in a water bottle outside of her cage and when she gets thirsty and asks for her water bottle, she drinks that (she stays out with me about 6 hours a day).... but it's been over a month of this stuff now to absolutely no avail... i will say i don't think it hurts any, so i keep trying.... the vet keeps trying to get her back on haloperidol, but it's just ridiculously heavy duty, trying to do everything else i can before resorting to that again.
